Hi all

"a friend" told me his 690 Duke will do a few mph over a tonne, with ducking head down a bit to reduce wind drag.

What do other people's friends' bikes get up to in terms of top speed on the new Duke?

They do 115 according to KTM so even allowing for an enthusiastic speedo they will hit 100 easily.

Definitely over 110. I can't login to the results page on jerseymotorsport.com at the moment, but mine was approaching 110 at the 1/4 mile. It had more to give.

I have had 112 on mine with more to go and my speedo hardly over reads. TBH anything over 80 is uncomfortable for any length of time.

I've had 110mph on my '10 enduro r with RR kit on knobblies. Not for the faint hearted!! Probably better on road based tyres :)

Cheers all

The reason I ask is that my brand new 2013 Duke Four, I think, is not running as fast as it should. Top speed is a reasonable factor in the peak power of an engine, so asking others how fast theirs go was to see if mine was comparable.

I have large orange hand guards fitted, and i'm wondering how much drag these add.

Still, I dont think my bike is running fast enough. It's not that it runs badly, just isn't particularly torquey!

That does not sound right, I've got a 2013 R, I'm 6.2" and a slender 15st and mine has plenty of torque, it's one of the reasons I bought it. I don't think the handguards will be a significant factor, possibly at the very top end when you're trying to eek out the couple of MPH.

Hmm - i've got the feeling that I need to test my bike against a known good bike. It's done 2100 miles. Obvs I had two test rides, but bought mine ages after. And even then I kept it below 6k rpm for a while too.

All I know is that an '07 Aprilia 650 strada smth got awfully close to me, and he was two-up!

Any advice?

I think you've bought the wrong bike. That aside would you like to buy my giant salamander, it makes a lovely pet. ;)

Running on aggressive mode. That, I thought, only made a diff to really low end torque?

Do you think it's worth getting it dyno'd to measure what's going on?

I dont think it's the wrong bike, it's a dream to ride, handles like a b4stard, and i'm fine not going over a tonne. But it doesnt' feel like the tyre destroying machine that ppl speak of, and i'm not sure if it's just my particular bike, or the model in general.

The Duke solo should absolutely toast the Strada off the line especially 2 up and I would expect the Duke to have the legs by some margin on top speed too. I've between had 105 and 120 indicated out of my old Duke 690, depending on wind direction and I'm not exactly svelte.

I have a 2008 690 Duke and had an indicated 119 on the clock today. The most I've ever seen on it. Always gets up to 110 with no problem and bloody quickly.
